Witch King by elfkin Witch King by elfkin
Lovely as he was evil? Maybe.....

I often think Sauron must have thought his wraiths were beautiful in their terribleness.

At any rate, here is the King of Angmar in the moments before he is full wraith--not alive, but not yet undead either.... trapped in a moment when the he is something else altogether and so the world appears to be to him, as well.

I will stop rambling now......

Still one of my favorite pictures of yours - beautiful, tragic, and disturbing.

Thank you! This was done a really long time ago. I mean years. And I've contemplated redoing it. But there was something about him that I just kinda liked.

"Beautiful and terrible as the dawn" is the quote that comes to mind when I see this picture (even though the quote is Galadriel describing herself.) Just amazing this picture is.

Lovely indeed. I randomly searched the Witch King on a whim, and was pleased that this was among the results. A wonderful picture as well as an intriguing idea and moment captured.

WOW! Ya know, I think the same about the wraiths. Consider that Witch-king was a great Numenorian king before, you have done a really respectable work! I dunno, but I trust that Black Breath wasn't pure fear, but there was also grief in it......

Lovely  I really like the Nazgul, I find their story so interesting, and grew fond of them from the very beginning. Your drawing makes him look sorrowful and longing, just the way I imagine them before turning into the wraiths. =)

"Half-life, a nothing being, a shell. All names for a voiding, a person that is crossing over to undeath. It is far worse then being undead as you are forced to watch all life come to horrify and despise you. This is why so many allow undeath to take them, for the dead feel no pain." this is a line I used when I was roll-playing a Necromancer once and it seemed fitting.

10/10

That is truely poetic of you. :joy:

I always liked this old work. I remember being your age and wanting to paint something creepy in this color range. It was years before I did it. I think it was the covers for the Iron Tower Trilogy that had me inspired.

I am so glad you liked this one. And I can totally see you playing a necromancer.

Great idea! While I was reading the book I was oftend thinking what they looked like and how they felt before they became complete wraights. Although not described in words you managed to describe it by drawing the king

You captured him perfectly, I instantly thought of the ring-wraiths when I saw his face, despite the title, and before reading the description. :)

Nice take on the Witch King. And I think you're probably right about Sauron (ever read Morgoth's Ring from The History of Middle Earth?)

Great concept and the character design is wicked! :D And the face is full of details and raw painting skills! ^^

I think it is because of the green scheme and a static pose I'm sad to say that this painting doesn't evoke interest when looking upon me.
That might be changed if the whole picture were more refined. Who knows, it might just be me being off here. ^^

Oh! And I like the crown! :D

I really like how you pictured this character, and I feel sorry, I don't remember him. But he looks a bit flattened out. Maybe because his boots looks bigger then other parts and legs look short.
